Lonely Fan in Lake Charles

I gotta tell you, it's no fun being a Steelers fan in Lake Charles. I'm sitting here in a coffee shop, eavesdropping with my Big Ben jersey on, and no one is talking about the Big Game this Sunday. No one is excited here. My sons tell me most of their friends at school are rooting for the Steelers, but where's the hype and hoopla? Back in Pittsburgh, I'm certain that's all everyone is talking about. I miss the Steelers songs on the radio, the hawkers in the Strip selling Steelers T-shirts, hats, and paraphernalia, the non-stop news reports, black and gold everywhere you look. Where's the Lake Charles' chapter of Steelers Nation when I need them? I don't even know for sure where we'll be watching the game. Might just be Bob and I in our own living room. And that would be alright.

Oh my god, there was SO much Steeler paraphenalia at school today! My friend counted over 50 Polamalu jerseys. And an extra credit math question was "who will be the mvp this sunday?" I put Big Ben, because it's my teacher's fav Steeler. They also kept playing "we will rock you" in between classes.

Pittsburgh Public Schools have already announced a two hour delay for Monday because they knew so many would be late or absent after the game. Now that is dedication!

As a transplant to Pittsburgh, I love the atmosphere here. It rivals the Kentucky love for their wildcats! Go Steelers.

I am also a transplant from Lake Charles born & raised to Houston TX. Quite a culture shock for me. I yearn for my home but my husband goes to Texas medical Center for his heart failure. We have been here 3 years. Want to swap? I pray for your son's full recovery and pray for your peace of mind. God Bless you and yours.
